When a double modern door fits
Choose a double door once the opening reaches roughly 60 inches, or when a wide, formal entry suits the facade. Below that width, a single door with matched sidelites usually looks and works better.
On a pair, one leaf is active for daily use and the other is inactive, held top and bottom by flush bolts and closed against an astragal. Open the second leaf only when you need the full width. See the glossary for astragal and flush bolt.

A pivot lets one person swing a wide, heavy leaf with a fingertip, while a hinge suits narrower openings and outswing conditions. Our slim frames run just under an inch and a half at the sightline, so the glass reads larger and the metal recedes.

Can I get a pivot instead of hinges?
Yes. Most single modern doors can be built as a pivot, which lets one person swing a wide, heavy leaf easily. We size the pivot hardware to the door weight and confirm the swing in your quote.
How slim can the frame be?
Our modern profiles run just under an inch and a half at the sightline, among the slimmest available in a fully welded iron door, so the glass reads larger and the metal recedes.
Black or bronze for a modern facade?
